How to use the club
Members and Temporary Members; please read and observe the following:
Sharing the Clubhouse and Grounds
A little bit of thought for the club housekeeping and other club members goes a long way to keeping our club a safe, tidy, clean, and 'home from home' place to be.
Bins might need emptying, floors mopping, surfaces wiping, and areas tidying. Feel free to get stuck in! It's your club! Do and make friends..
Now and again a team may sweep through and remove unwanted items, so, please keep your kit under control when you are using it and don't leave it in the public areas when you are not there.
If you're the last to leave please make sure all the lights are off (some are on timers) and the outside doors are all locked up.
Access and security
Access to the Clubhouse, grounds and Car Park will be explained to you by the membership secretary once your Membership or Temporary Membership have been arranged: membership@conistonsailingclub.co.uk
The clubhouse and car park can be accessed all year and boats may be launched and sailed. However, the bar and Dinghy Park are shut for winter (December to February) and the clubhouse put on snooze.
All property kept at the club must be clearly identified. Tagged with your member number if you are a member, your surname if you are a temporary member.
Insurance
All users of the club; Members, Temporary Members and Regatta Entrants are responsible for ensuring that they have appropriate Insurance to cover their sailing, racing and other activities on and off the water.
Buoyancy Aids
Must be worn for all club arranged sailing activities. The ManagementCommittee recommends the use of buoyancy aids by people on or in the water at all times, and by children on the jetties and pontoons.
Safety Boats
On duty for racing and sailing events organised by the club.
Parking
To satisfy our National Trust Lease, vehicles must be parked in the Car Park, not in the Dinghy Park or on the beach, not outside the club gates or on the farm access roads.
Car Park barrier cards can be obtained from the bar for a £5 deposit.
Loading and unloading at the club access gates is allo wed for a short periodand providing that the vehicle is not left unattended.
The access gates must be accessible to emergency vehicles at all times.
Children
We have RYA approved policies for Child Protection and Health and Safety.
Liaison officer details are on the notice board.
"Any junior under the age of 16 years, whilst on club premises or attending club activities, ashore or afloat, must be under the supervision of a responsible adult. This responsible adult is expected to supervise the junior and be responsible for the welfare and behaviour of the junior."
This means that if the child is ashore, the adult must be ashore too unless an alternative onshore adult has been agreed. For club racing events, a junior helm under the age of 16 must include their responsible adult's name when signing on.
Children are welcome in all areas of the club, including the lounge bar, as long as they are supervised, well behaved and show polite consideration to other club members.
Dogs
Unlike a lot of sailing clubs, we still welcome well behaved dogs to CSC.
Please keep your dogs on a lead whilst on-site.
Please scoop up their poop if they have an accident best to do off site!
The lounge bar is out of bounds for all wet, smelly, muddy dogs (and sailors!), but they may visit when dry, well behaved and when it's not too busy.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in any areas of the clubhouse nor balcony.
Alcohol
Normal Licencing laws apply to our excellent bar where we serve a wide variety of wines, spirits, beer (hand pull and bottles) and soft drinks.
The Bar will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings and most weekend lunchtimes during the main sailing season Easter to October.
It will also be open for other club social occasions.
Please support the bar! The prices are kept keen and all the profits are invested back into the club.
In line with all other pubs and bars, it is generally accepted that members do not consume their own alcohol inside the lounge bar at any time, nor inside the club buildings when the bar is actively open.
Catering
The club kitchen has some freezers, a gas cooker, a water heater and some crockery which are for club event use only.
Sinks, Kettles, Microwave, Toaster and the fridge/freezers, mugs etc. may be shared with respect. Please keep your food in named boxes in the fridge/freezers, clear them out when you leave and leave space for others. No other cooking appliances can be used inside the club for safety and insurance reasons.
If you fancy a BBQ it must be lit on the south side of the club only. Fire safety rules apply. The club BBQ is often lit for communal cooking at weekends during the main season.
Wi-Fi
Enjoy and use responsibly! Keep an eye on the kids it's more fun outdoors!
The access code can be obtained from the bar or a Management Committee Member.
Cruisers
Cruiser moorings are managed and allocated by The Rawdon-Smith Trust. Please contact The RST Lake Warden.
Coniston Water has a motor speed limit of 10mph and a Lake Warden to enforce it.
Jetties
The main club jetty is for the use of all members. Cruisers may be moored on a first come first served basis, fore and aft using the trot buoys available and with warps suitable for the boat and prevailing wind conditions. Cruisers must approach the jetties at an appropriate speed under engine, sailing on and off the jetty is strictly forbidden.
Small boats are asked to moor close to the clubhouse to maximise the available jetty space, and boats at the far end to accept that other boats may raft alongside at busy times.
Members are welcome to stay on the jetty but must not leave their cruisers unoccupied for long periods or overnight.
A hosepipe is available primarily for filling water tanks. It may be used with external power (isolated in bar) for respectful boat washing.
Battery chargers are available in a cupboard adjacent to the oar stores.
The Launching Ramp Jetty is for the launch and retrieval of cruisers. It can be used for passenger pick up or drop off but not mooring. Dinghies may tie up between racing and sailing.
Launch and Retrieval days are organised by the club for members.
Fishing rods, BBQs or other open flame cookers are not allowed on the Jetties.
Lifejackets/Buoyancy aids are recommended at all times on the jetties.
Tenders
There are 40 tender spaces on shore available from March 1st to November 30th. These will be allocated at membership enrolment/renewal giving priority to those tenders shared by two or more cruisers (sharing is arranged by members).
Oar stores are available.
Dinghy Park
Available from March 1st to November 30th. Spaces for dinghies, Topper rack and Kayak rack will be allocated during membership enrolment/renewal.
Road trailer bases must be removed to the car park or away.
Spaces are for one dinghy only, any spare kit must be kept under the dinghy's cover.
Trailer Storage
Summer and Winter storage for cruiser and dinghy trailers is available in the car park.
Winter Storage
From October 1st to Good Friday in the car park for boats and trailers.
Other Lake Users
Steam Yacht Gondola and one/two Coniston Launches operate a regular ferry service on the lake. Power should give way to sail but please be careful to avoid collisions, they may not know the rules.
Please take care around hired electric and rowing boats, swimmers, canoeists and other lake users.
