Junior Regatta - 9/6/19
Junior Regatta Report - Tony Johnson - Sailing Chairman
What a great weekends sailing! 13 entries. The format was one day's race coaching followed by the big day where the juniors get chance to demonstrate their skill in a 3 race regatta (3 races to count). I was very impressed with the high standard of sailing/racing skills demonstrated, particularly as the strong wind conditions really tested everyone. Keith & Dorothy set the courses and we had proper committee boat starts each race. All the juniors did well, at the front of the fleet it was close competition with John, Grace, Holly and Harrison. Closely following on was Olly, Zac, Leah, Macey, Sophie, Jan, Cy, Emily and Louise.
It was all to play for up to the last race. On the last leg, Grace capsized resulting in the kicking strap breaking, this slowed her down and John took the win. Overall, 1st place went to John, 2nd Grace, and 3rd Holly. Dorothy said "you all deserve medals" - which they all got! Coxon Endeavour trophy for the most improved sailor over the event went to Leah - very well done!
For an event like this to be so successful it takes a lot of planning/organising - special mention and big thanks to Pauline. Keith & Dorothy were fantastic leading the coaching and running the races. For me, the greatest thing about the event was that almost everyone around seemed to be involved, we had loads of volunteers, this is what our club is about, either providing safety cover, preparing food, rigging the boats, launching and retrieving the boats - too many names to mention here - but without you we couldn't have done it - THANK YOU!
