Coniston Sailing Club Phased Reopening Plan.

Dear member,

We are writing to communicate the next phases of our planned opening of CSC. We are all keen to reopen Coniston Sailing Club as soon as we can, but this needs to be done in a safe and considerate way.

The detailed plans are now posted on the members only section of the Website. They are based on Government and RYA guidance. Please do read them. Whilst they are subject to revision as the situation changes, the plan covers the key risks and the controls that we have put in place to protect us all. Please do everything that you can to follow them to protect both yourself and other members of the club. The plan is split into 3 phases. We are currently in phase 0, with phase 1 planned to be effective from 1st June. All being well, phase 2 will be implemented in early July.

Some key points of phase 1 (1st June - 3rd July)

  1. Due to severe parking restrictions caused by boats still in the car park, and the need to support social distancing we are asking you to book a ticket to visit the club. Initially 30 tickets will be available on your SCM portal for each day. Every person visiting will require a ticket (including any temporary members you may wish to bring with you). At the point of booking members can see how many other tickets have been issued, which may help you choose when to come. When you book online you will receive an e-mail confirming your booking and reminding you of the guidelines.
  2. In line with Government guidance the clubhouse is remaining shut, other than for access to an emergency toilet from 1st June. On a 'one in one out' basis you will be able to access the ladies toilet block from the south door only. Whilst we have some cleaning taking place, we ask that you clean every surface touched after use and throw any wipes away in the bin provided.
  3. The emergency toilet should not be used for changing and at no time should any clothing or personal belongings be left in the Club.
  4. Safety boats are not available, and therefore we continue to strongly advise against sailing. However, if you choose to sail please be very careful of the risks you are taking and take extra safety precautions.
  5. Please do not touch property belonging to other members, or to the club (e.g. oars, boats etc).
  6. The club is providing additional cleaning and hand sanitising products, but we advise also bringing your own in case for any reason there are none available.
  7. Temporary membership is limited, and all temporary members must be booked and paid for via your SCM portal.
  8. The gates into the clubhouse grounds have now been fitted with a number padlock. If you do require access to bring or remove a boat prior to 1stJune, then please contact Judy on 07503584401 for the number.

If you are showing coronavirus symptoms, or if you or any of your household are self-isolating, please stay at home. Please follow all Government guidelines on staying safe outside your home, especially the 2m rule, and no gatherings of more than 2. (,

We have also taken the difficult decision to cancel the organised sailing and social programme at the club for the rest of the year. This removes the need for anybody to volunteer to run/ support an event. I am sure that we will organise some ad-hoc things later in the year when we see how things are going.

This note and the plan are effective immediately and are an addition/addendum to the Coniston Sailing Club Constitution and Policies that are currently in force. The Committee advise members that any decisions you make in line with the plan are taken completely at your own risk and you accept and understand that you are fully and wholly responsible for your own actions. Coniston Sailing Club, its Committee and its members accept no responsibility for your decision to visit the club and/or sail and for anything that may happen as a result of your visit.

Thank you for all of your support so far. If you have any queries, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

CSC Committee
