Important Information regarding the Government announcement on 23rd March
You will be aware of the Prime Minister's direction to the UK issued at 8.30pm on Monday 23rd March and that, as individuals, we are now only allowed to leave our homes for 'very limited' purposes:
Shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
One form of exercise a day, e.g. a walk, a run or a cycle alone or with members of your household
Any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
Travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
That is all - these are the only reasons you should leave your home and you should not be meeting with friends or gathering with more than two people in public excluding the people you live with.
Parks will remain open for exercise, but any gatherings will be dispersed.
This direction reinforces the social distancing and non-essential travel and in reality, means that only members who are within walking distance of the club may visit the grounds.
Mountain Rescue teams have stated that it is time to put hillwalking and climbing on hold, and for people to get their exercise in a more responsible and safer way. Similarly, going sailing when there will be no safety boats available from the Club and other water associations around Coniston Water, plus the number of people on shore to raise the alarm will be very limited, falls into the same category. All these activities have the potential to draw emergency & essential services away from the crisis. With this in mind your Committee would strongly advise that you do not take your exercise by going sailing.
As I said in my first e-mail (less than a week ago) we are living through an unprecedented global event and we all have to play our part in helping to 'flatten that curve' and to protect our loved ones and ourselves, therefore we must all follow the instructions that we have been given. Naturally, we are all extremely sorry that our 2020 season is on hold and we can't be at the Club doing what we love doing. Nobody has any idea how long this will last, but we are reviewing our options as to how we can support our members by making a reduction to their fees during this time.
We will continue with our communications to you as and when there is anything new to report, and when we have an agreed proposal to soften the blow of not being able to use your Club and your boats.
Please follow the Government directives and look after yourselves and your families.
Remember - you can keep in touch with other members via the Facebook group - it is a private group and I ensure that only members are part of the group.
Remember, Stay Home, Save Lives.
