CSC and Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - email sent to all members 18/3/2020

Published 10:56 on 18 Mar 2020

I'm sure you are all aware of the escalating situation with the Covid-19 pandemic (coronavirus). As a club, we are endeavouring to do everything possible to ensure the health and safety of our members, consequently we need to make some decisions regarding the 2020 season.

We have establshed a Coronavirus (CV) action group consisting of Mike Curtin (Commodore), Rob Swyer (Treasurer), Dan Johnson (Vice Commodore) and myself, Judy Leese (Membership Secretary). This group will meet, via conference call, twice weekly (initially), and all communication will be coordinated through this group. The CV group will be led by Government guidance, the RYA recommendations and good common sense and will seek approval from the whole CSC committee for major decisions.

Following the first official call on Tuesday, 17th March, the following recommendations have been approved by the Committee and will come into immediate force.

  1. The Club's organised sailing programme is suspended with immediate effect, with the suspension continuing initially until the end of May. We will review the suspension and make further changes as the situation develops.
  2. The May dinghy open regatta is cancelled.
  3. The Club's organised training programmes for both juniors and adults are cancelled immediately, and for the whole season. All members booked onto these courses will receive a separate e-mail following.
  4. The Junior summer school has not currently been cancelled but this will be reviewed as we proceed through the season.
  5. The Club's organised social calendar is suspended with immediate effect, again with the suspension continuing initially until the end of May.
  6. The cruiser launch this weekend will continue to run and individual notifications have been sent. No catering will be provided, and the bar will remain closed.
  7. We are keen to keep the clubhouse open for now to allow people who want to go sailing. However, we do not wish to promote use of the club for social interaction and therefore, together with the potential risks associated with areas not being cleaned thoroughly, the bar will be kept shut.
  8. The toilets and showers will remain available, to encourage regular handwashing following government guidelines, additional signs have been put in the kitchen and both toilets.
  9. The kitchen will remain available for members, additional cleaning products will be available as soon as possible and all members are requested to clean kitchen surfaces once used.
  10. The dinghy park and racks are available for use now and you can bring your craft onto the site.
  11. We have spoken to the National Trust regarding the storage of boats in the car park beyond Good Friday and, whilst they are keen that we move as many as possible, they fully understand and have authorised our request.

All of the above is subject to change, should government guidelines change, so please keep an eye out for further communications on club website/email/Facebook. Please follow the guidelines below to minimise risk to yourself and all members:

  • Please read government guidelines. In particular, we strongly encourage high risk members or people who think they may have/have been exposed to the virus to not visit the club;
  • Please try to keep your time at the club to a minimum and limit close interaction with other members. Please endeavour to wash your hands regularly, particularly if in the clubhouse.

We trust that all members understand the rationale behind the above decisions and will keep members informed as and when there are any changes to communicate.

Obviously, we are all now living through an unprecedented global event and all trying to manage this the best we can for ourselves, our families and our friends and other members. On behalf of the Committee, I wish all members our best wishes and urge everybody to keep safe. If anybody has any queries re this e-mail or other club matters then please do not hesitate to contact me.
