Over the weekend of the 13 & 14 March 2010 Coniston Sailing Club organised an RYA Level 2 Race Coaching Course. The course was selected in order to promote further interest in primarily the Junior training programme.
Those who participated, six in total will be able to deliver fun, quality race training to adults or children within clubs, classes or squads.
the RYA coaching philosophy is ' to coach the sailor to become there own coach'
The key to any training programme is to develop the skills of those Providing the training to deliver to others their personal sailing skills and knowledge in a structured and safe manner, by creating bite sized chunks that will inform develop and maintain the group that are being trained.
The course embraces a number of key strategies. including:-
1. how to coach, exercises, demonstrations, practice and so on.
2. How do we remember, Reading, Video, and so on
3. The coaching process, Plan, Brief, exercise, debrief, with an overall consideration of safety.
This is just a brief summary of the course, should you require any further information, contact John Curtis or visit the RYA website for further useful information and links relating to all aspects of sailing.
