The 2011 Annual General Meeting took place on 29th October at John Ruskin School, Coniston, and was attended by 46 full and Honorary members, and 9 Junior members.
Following the decision of our previous Commodore that for family reasons, he felt unable to fulfil the post of Past Commodore in the coming year, the Management Committee submitted a proposal to the AGM that in such circumstances, previous commodores should be invited to volunteer to fill that position, and should there be more than one volunteer, the Committee would select by vote. This was passed at the AGM and previous commodores are now to be invited to volunteer for selection.

The 15% increase in membership agreed at the 2010 AGM had resulted in the highest membership income for 7 years, which will enable us to begin to improve some key areas around the club. The Treasurer reminded members that we need to invest in the future of the club from income and not from reserves. Key expenditure expected in 2012 would be the repair and improvement of the launching ramp and jetty and the first improvements to the changing rooms.
The Treasurer also advised that following a trial, internet Wifi access would now be extended to all members on a controlled basis for an annual change of £5.
In summary the Commodore confirmed it had been a successful season and, as the Treasurer confirmed, the finances have improved with income being generated to begin maintenance and improvement work. Unfortunately the National Trust have instructed the club to repair the roof valleys and whilst we are still waiting to confirm scope and detail to understand the full cost we do have reserves and are confident we can deal with this.
Watch out for membership renewal forms which will be circulated via e-mail before the end of the year.
