Coniston Sailing Club

Coniston Sailing Club's Golden Jubilee Year

In 1967 a group of like minded leisure sailors, Ian Stancliffe, Peter Askew, Richard Kenyon, Eric & Olive Coward, and John & Margery Abram got together in the Ship Inn at Coniston and held a meeting. That meeting led to the decision to form Coniston Sailing Club.  John was elected Commodore, Ian, Honorary Secretary and Olive, Honorary Treasurer.  The rest, as they say, is history and 50 years on, the Club continues to grow and adapt and is still maintaining the ethos for which it was created - to promote and facilitate the sport of sailing and to provide sailing, social and other facilities for members and visitors alike.

Coniston Sailing club is located on the North West shore of Coniston Water, across the bay from     Coniston Boating Centre. It is next to Coniston Old Hall, which is a 16th Century farmhouse, providing a campsite for people to stay nearby.

Coniston Sailing Club has a varied calendar of organised sailing events, junior training and open meetings as well as both cruiser and dinghy series races on Sundays, and a Wednesday evening dinghy series open to all members. For more details see the Club Programme.
